Dominating Simone
Hi reader, please note this short story book is part of my special offer $1 or £1 library. I hope you enjoy.
I glanced sidelong toward the front door, long enough to secretly watch James meander through the near-empty bar, almost pacing himself perfectly. He stepped in time with an R&B tune playing at a low enough volume not to dominate my thoughts.
“May I buy you a drink, Simone?”
“May you leave me alone, James?”
“Wow, that’s a bit harsh, don’t you think?”
“You tried to make me look foolish at our board meeting today. You failed like you always do, but I find the crime is in attempting to ridicule, not succeeding.”
James is my subordinate at work. He’s intelligent, handsome, kind, and popular. Something about him bothers and excites me, but I don’t care to admit it. I am a strong, independent woman, fed up lying awake in an empty bed.
